Our family
I’m Joseph Moses, owner and manager of Moses Electrical. Hailing from Whangarei, my family and I moved down to Wellington soon after I was born in 1976. Standing at 6’5” – it was inevitable I would develop a knack for basketball. Representing Wellington under 21’s and eventually versing Utah in my league are some of my proudest achievements in the sport. I’m still actively involved with Basketball – I coach for the New Zealand Basketball Academy and the under-14’s Kings Team, based in Wellington.
In 1994 I wrapped up my high school years and started an electrical apprenticeship at the Haywards Power Station – following in the footsteps of my Uncle Johnny who I had always looked up to. Back then, scraping by on an apprentice wage was difficult – so I worked weekends at the Warehouse and a night shift at a Mobil Petrol Station, too. After completing my apprenticeship in 1998, I embarked on an OE in the UK where I worked with computers, since technology has always been one of my side interests.

Having settled back into New Zealand, I started my own business, Moses Electrical Ltd. in 2000 and worked as a one-man band for a few years. I learned the ropes of running my own business pretty quickly and enjoyed meeting new people and learning every day. Eventually, the business started outgrowing me and I took on several tradesmen as a result.
Nearly two decades later, our family are settled in Karori. Our four children; Ysatis (who’s moved out), Josephus, Dominic and Vincent, keep my partner Anita and I very busy outside of work hours. My eldest son trains with the New Zealand Basketball Academy and in January 2018, he was selected to go to Las Vegas where he and his team put themselves up against some of the best teams of their age in the world.
